Update: The House of Representative Oppose January 18 school resumption by the federal Government. The House of Reps disagree with January 18th school resumption date. This means that schools in Nigeria will no longer resume in January. All students therefore wait for FG to announce new resumption due to second wave of Covid 19.

The federal government have postponed the earlier announced September 18 school resumption date. Remember that  FG said it will review the date and know weather universities and other institutions Nigeria will resume or not. But earlier this week, the federal ministry of education said that schools in Nigeria will no longer resume in January until they fix new dates.

ASUU News Updates on Resumption of Schools

ASUU strike is currently suspended. The Federal government and ASUU has reached agreement to call off over nine months strike which started since March 2020. This means that students will be able to go back to school from the year 2021. Although, ASUU will likely embark on another strike if Federal Government fail to fulfil their agreement.

Reps oppose school resumption date. Ask for 3 months extension. This come barely 24 hours for students to go back to school. This is a bad news for many Nigerian students and could lead to depression. I advise you keep your fingers crossed while we await for good news on school resumption date.

  • The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19, a few days ago, insisted on the January 18 resumption date for schools until the Federal Ministry of Education advises otherwise.
  • The clarification became necessary following the earlier comment by the Minister for Education, Adamu Adamu, that government may review the resumption date following the outbreak of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic across the country.

Private Schools Resumption Date

At the other hand the association of private school proprietors have shown readiness to start up with school activities. The association said in the same guideline of the NCDC and WHO, they have considered all that and will put all into consideration.
